i finally finished making the quilt top for emilee's quilt. i'm so happy with how it turned out! most of my sunday afternoon was spent cutting, laying out, and assembling the sashing and squares. now i have to make the back side, i think i'll do rectangles of the left over mermaid fabric with the same white fabric as the sashing. once the back is done i just need to assemble the back, batting, and top and bind the quilt.
pinning the pieces together

laying out the sashing and squares

the quilt is now almost big enough to cover a full size bed, i'm pretty sure i can adjust the pattern to fit a queen bed. i already have fabrics picked out to make the next one (which might be a birthday present)....

i went with my aunt jamie to the 2009 quilt show in ontario, and i think we both left feeling very inspired to get crafting. i bought quite a few trims and buttons, and even some darling embroidery patterns, plus some of the vendors gave away free quilt patterns. i was overwhelmed by all the fabric, machines and goodies, but still had an amazing time, it was also exciting to see some of the fabrics i stare at for hours online in person.
here are some pictures of the quilts that were submitted for ribbons.

i loved anything with animal themes.

american gothic, the quilt.

orange was a very popular color in a lot of the quilts.

again, i love the animal themes.

the thread detail on the quilts was really amazing. most of the these were quilted on machines, not by hand.

aunt jamie's favorite quilt.

i loved the birds and details on this quilt too.

this quilt was beautiful in person, it almost glowed.
soon i'll be sharing my new projects, i'm very excited!
Happy Martin Luther King day, and Happy Inauguration Eve!!
